The June 2016 PASRR webinar "PASRR and Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities: Building Strong Practices for Positive Outcomes" occurred on Tuesday, June 14th, at 1 PM EST (10 AM PST).

Synopsis of the Topic:

This webinar provided an overview of the role of state intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) agencies in the design and implementation of PASRR. Best practices from I/DD agencies nationwide were highlighted. Challenges facing I/DD agencies were identified, along with strategies to address those challenges. A case study of Delaware's best practices related to supporting individuals with I/DD through PASRR was presented.



Speakers:

Mary Sowers directs Special Projects at the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services (NASDDDS). In this role, she provides assistance to states on an array of issues, including home and community-based services (HCBS) and PASRR. In prior roles, Ms. Sowers provided policy leadership with the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration and as a private consultant. In addition, Ms. Sowers held senior positions with the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Disabled and Elderly Health Programs Group within the Center for Medicaid, CHIP and Survey and Certification. During her tenure at CMS, Ms. Sowers specialized in long-term care policy, including Medicaid home and community-based services, managed long term services and supports (including strategies for reducing institutional reliance), self-direction, and strategies to design person-centered systems of care.

Eddi Ashby is a Waiver Manager for the Delaware Division of Developmental Disabilities Services (DHSS). She has worked for the Delaware state government for 11 years. Ms. Ashby previously served as the Director of the Money Follows the Person grant for 5 years. She joined DHSS in 2013 and, in addition to serving as a Waiver Manager, she is the manager of the Delaware OBRA program.
