The webinar was presented by Alice Bernet of Ascent Management Innovations, PTAC consultant Dustin Dodson, and Brandon Sturgill of the National Association of PASRR Professionals (NAPP).

A PDF copy of the slides is available at the bottom of this page, along with a Q&A document covering questions that were not addressed on the live webinar.

Synopsis of the Topic

This webinar will cover three separate PASRR talks. Topics include PASRR and the new ICD-10, MDS findings and analyses, and possibilities with NAPP.

Speakers:

Alice Bernet

Dr. Bernet has served as Clinical Director for Ascend Management Innovations since July, 2015. Her role allows her to develop person-centered training initiatives for Ascend’s clinicians and independent contractors to ensure the delivery of clinically sound findings and the identification of evidence-based services for providers. Much of this work centers on the clinical quality of PASRR evaluations. Dr. Bernet maintains an instructor appointment at the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.

Dustin Dodson

With over 20 years of executive level experience in primary, acute, ambulatory, and post-acute care, Dustin Dodson has enjoyed developing a working knowledge of how the MDS is integrated into the delivery of care and services across the continuum of care. He is knowledgeable about how the MDS 3.0 is integral to reimbursement (including Medicare, Commercial, and Medicaid), how the MDS is part of the regulatory compliance arena and a tool that is highly scrutinized by compliance agencies, and how the MDS 3.0 is utilized in the CMS Five Star Rating system for Nursing Facilities. He is also knowledgeable on short comings of the MDS 3.0 when used for purposes other than its original intent.

Brandon Sturgill

Brandon Sturgill has worked as the hearing coordinator in PASRR for the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services since 2009. In this role, he is responsible for representing the state in all PASRR-related hearings. Mr. Sturgill is currently the Ohio PASRR quality manager, responsible for PASRR-related program design & development, policy creation, data collection and dissemination, staff management, and state-wide training & outreach.
