Promising PASRR Practices: Arkansas and Indiana
The April 2014 PASRR webinar "Promising PASRR Practices: Arkansas and Indiana" occurred on Tuesday, April 8th, at 1 PM EST (10 AM PST).
The webinar was led by Dorothy Ukegbu and Sherri Proffer from Arkansas and Becky Koors from Indiana.

Synopsis of the Topic:
For the April 8th webinar, representatives from the states of Arkansas and Indiana will be presenting on promising practices within their states.
Arkansas: Using PASRR Deficiencies to Increase Compliance with PASRR Regulations
Dorothy Ukegbu and Sherri Proffer from Arkansas will briefly describe the Arkansas PASRR program/regulations, followed by a few examples of cases that led to PASRR-related nursing facility deficiencies. A discussion of the process to appeal the deficiency will follow.
IPAS and PASRR: Indiana's Overview
Becky Koors from Indiana will provide an overview of the Indiana Pre-Admission Screening and the Pre-Admission Screening Resident Review programs. Included in the presentation will be best practices and as well as the challenges encountered.
Speakers
Becky Koors
Representing the state of Indiana, Becky Koors has worked with the PAS/PASRR programs since 1990 while working in a nursing facility, at the local Area Agency on Aging, and at the State level. During this time period, Ms. Koors supervised case managers at the local level and professional staff within the State government to assure compliance within the state and federal regulations.
Sherri Proffer
Sherri Proffer is a Registered Nurse and a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional. Ms. Proffer has worked for the Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Medical Services, Office of Long Term Care for 20 years and functions as the Nurse Manager in the Medical Need Eligibility and Special Programs Sections. Among many of her accomplishments, Sherri developed Arkansas' Alzheimer's Special Care Unit regulations and assisted in the development of the Arkansas' Assisted Living Facility regulations.
Dorothy Ukegbu
Representing the state of Arkansas, Dorothy Ukegbu has worked as the Medicaid authority in Arkansas responsible for the administration of PASRR for 11.5 years. Prior to working for the Department of Human Services, Ms. Ukegbu worked as a registered nurse in the mental health field in acute and long-term psychiatric facilities for 13 years. She also worked in a nursing home as the Assistant Director of Nursing and the Staff Development Coordinator for two years.
